Lee M. Mandel, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.R.S. is the director of the South Florida Sinus and Allergy Center. Chronic snoring can be a nightmare for both you and your partner. The most common cause of snoring in adults is known as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA occurs when your throat and airway muscles relax during sleep, causing your airway to narrow or even close as you breathe. This causes loud, jarring snoring and can prevent your brain from getting enough oxygen. Not only does OSA result in a poor night’s rest, but it can have potentially lethal long-term consequences. Dr. Mandel utilizes a convenient, at-home sleep test to help diagnose OSA.
